RootEd is a movement to rediscover the fundamentals of Indian Performing Arts, and to present them as an invaluable repository of knowledge, and an unmatched tool for training and exploration of body and mind. We believe that the study of Indian Performing Arts, its history, its practice, its evolution and its unified cord lasting a few millennia and spanning an imposing geographical extent has great value for the academic as well as general audience. This fascinating area of study is without doubt capable of offering a very fertile ground for research and exploration for academics of a large variety of disciplines, ranging from literature, art history, aesthetics, kinesiology, social anthropology, and so on.
We at RootEd are a small team crazily passionate about Indian Classical Dance and we dream that one day Classical Dance be accessible and reach every single person in this world.
Our work today primarily focuses on what ensues between the two important people at the heart of art – The Art Maker and their Audience.
For years, artistes have created groundbreaking work that ought to be adding value and enriching human lives. Yet our sabhas and halls today tell a very different story! “Will they come?” is a question that grows heavier with every hall that remains unfilled . The audiences have their reasons but as artists have we tried to seek them out?
At RootEd, we have started off on a journey to do just this. Listen. Listen to our audience. Understand what we fail to offer them. Understand what we miss to convince them of.
We ask the questions, and they have answers. But what do we do with them?
As a community are we brave enough to accept these concerns? Are we honest enough to analyse them with an open mind? And are we ultimately able to keep this pivotal audience-artist conversation alive – where it matters most – the stage, the performance.
